February Fun at Abbington of Pickerington Assisted Living

May 29, 2015At Abbington of Pickerington Assisted Living, our spirits began to rise in March as winter melted away. Of course, there were still some harsh days, but you could see the hope that springs eternal in the eyes of residents and staff alike. In fact, our first day’s proverb fit that sentiment perfectly: “No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.” Even when we were hit with some disheartening weather, just seeing “March” on the calendar reminded us that warmer days and the blossoming of new life was only days away. We tried to ensure all of our activities and discussions kept the liveliness of the impending season present in everyone’s mind. If you’re looking for Pickerington assisted living, consider us at Abbington of Pickerington Assisted Living – we put in the extra effort so that life for the residents reflects the spirit of the season.
Just as they are for everyone else, Mondays are often when we take care of our practical business at Abbington of Pickerington Assisted Living. Important errands are never overlooked for our residents. Even during a bad winter, we know everyone needs to get to doctor appointments, to the bank, and to the grocery store. At Abbington of Pickerington Assisted Living, we make sure to take care of everyone. But everyone agrees that errands in town are far more pleasant as the weather warms!
Our first Monday saw us take a trip into town for the bank and Kroger. The second Monday we went to the Dollar Tree. That may not be as practical an errand as going to the bank, but it’s important for a lot of our residents to pick up some nice little things for their home or treats to last them the week. The next Monday we went to Giant Eagle for some groceries. We finished out the month with a trip to the thrift store for some great steals. And every Monday (and Wednesday and Friday) starts with our “Group Walk.” There is no better way to start the week than with some light exercise and a little camaraderie.
Aside from our walks, we have several other activities to help us stay healthy and fit at Abbington of Pickerington Assisted Living. We know that exercise is scientifically proven to help improve your mood. But don’t get us wrong, we’re not exactly cracking the whip at Abbington of Pickerington Assisted Living. Activities are as light as a “Morning Stretch” and include “Exercise with Abby,” “Beach Ball Volleyball,” and “Parachute Exercise.”
In an effort to stimulate our minds and entertain, we watch classic movies. Some of the classics we viewed in March include To Kill A Mockingbird, Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner?, Ben Hur, and Gone With The Wind. We also play brain games like Pictionary, and fun games like Euchre, Yahtzee, and Checkers. And we have plenty of group discussions about moral dilemmas, and the Bible. We’re careful not to take for granted the health of the mind, the body, or the spirit at Abbington of Pickerington Assisted Living. Check back to see what we were up to in April.
