The bitter cold of winter seemed like a distant memory in April. Spirits were high for everyone at Abbington of Pickerington Assisted Living, staff and residents alike. Our activities were full of vibrant color and blossoming life, reflecting the liveliness of the season.

At Abbington of Pickerington Assisted Living, we kicked off April the way everyone does, with April Fools! We played games and everyone had a good laugh. With flowers blooming and the world looking beautiful again, it always inspires the ladies to look their prettiest as well. That’s why the hair salon was open for business. And every woman knows it doesn’t end with the hairdo; after the salon it was time for manicures! But Abbington of Pickerington Assisted Living isn’t just a place where women get pampered, though it may sound that way. The library was open, church service was held and we all enjoyed the fresh spring air on our Group Walk.
With Easter approaching, our crafts were focused on celebrating the special holiday. And the Saturday before Easter we had an Easter egg hunt. Everyone had a blast as the excitement and nostalgia took hold of our imaginations. When the day finally came, we celebrated with hot cross buns for breakfast, true to the ancient tradition.
In an effort to mirror the beauty outside, we had several days focused on color and floral themes. In fact, the 23rd was “COLORFUL DAY” when everyone was encouraged to wear his/her most vibrant garb. It was a sight to see and a pleasant reminder that spring had arrived. Another day was dedicated to making flower collages. That certainly got everyone in the spirit of the season. You should’ve seen the beautiful creations made by our residents – just gorgeous.
We always emphasize health and fitness at Abbington of Pickerington Assisted Living, but the warm weather sure does make it easier to enjoy. We go on multiple Group Walks each week and even mix it up with our exercise routine. Gentle Chair Yoga, Wii Bowling, Exercise with Abby and Margaret, and “Sit and be Fit” are all some of the light exercise we try to make part of the routine. We know that healthy equals happy.
The whole month was littered with fun things to do. One day it was “Sixties Singing.” Another day we played Bingo, then Euchre, then Yahtzee, then Dominoes… We did word searches, watched movies, had ice cream and listened to live musical performances. On a particularly beautiful day we did some bird watching from right in our own backyard. It was just a perfect few weeks to start off a lovely spring at Abbington of Pickerington Assisted Living.
