Is It Time for Assisted Living?
August 1, 2016National Assisted Living Week
September 7, 2016Daily activity is important for the quality of life for senior citizens. At Abbington Assisted Living facilities, it is important to keep residents active through daily programs to improve their lives. Active seniors have a better quality of life.
“We encourage family involvement, but residents participate in all activities even when family is unavailable,” said Tina Bridge of Abbington of Arlington. “The residents are our family and since Abbington is a small facility (currently 40 residents), and we are with them for more than 40 hours each week, we really get to know each one.”
It is so important for the residents to participate in the games and activities available to them at Abbington. Socialization is a key to keeping the mind sharp. And, every game that is offered to the residents is designed to connect mind and body. Their quality of life is improved when they are moving and interacting with others. The goal is to keep residents at their current level or even improve it.
National Assisted Living Week is September 11-17, and several daily activities are scheduled at Abbington of Arlington. Fair Day will feature corndogs and funnel cakes. On Irish Day Reuben sandwiches will be served. And Hawaiian Day will feature Hawaiian cuisine prepared by the chef. Family members are welcome and encouraged to participate in the fun. It will be a special week for residents, staff and family and friends.
Bridge said that she wants to make sure that everyone laughs every day. Laughter has been shown to improve mood, lower blood pressure, increase endorphins sent to the brain, and increase the intake of oxygen, which is good for the heart.
“That’s what I am here for,” said Bridge. ” I’m here to enhance the quality of life for the residents at Abbington Arlington.”
Bridge has been with Abbington for more than four years. She has a degree in psychology with an emphasis in gerentology.
